WIC (Women, Infants, and Children)

Available in Benton, Fountain, Montgomery, Vermillion, and Warren Counties.

WIC is a special supplemental food program that provides nutrition support, breastfeeding support, and referrals to other agencies. To apply for WIC one must be pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a child under the age of 5. The applicant must also have a nutritional risk and meet income guidelines. Current guidelines are set at 185% of poverty. For example, a family of 4, annual gross income would have to be less than or equal to $40,793. WIC applicants can visit the clinic in their community to enroll in the program. Once enrolled, participants will pick up WIC checks at their local clinic. Please call your local clinic to schedule an appointment. Proof of income, identification, and proof of residency must accompany individuals at their scheduled appointment. At the appointment an applicant will receive nutrition support and learn about other services they can use to help their family. Starting on September 28, 2009, WIC has some exciting changes for participants. A cash value voucher for fresh fruits and vegetables will be added to each food package to encourage more consumption of these foods. Whole grains will be added to promote a heart healthy diet. Breastfeeding moms will receive an increase in the amount of food for herself and an increase of baby food fruits and vegetables as well as baby food meats. In an effort to encourage children to drink less juice and sweetened beverages, there will be no infant juice provided and less juice provided for women and children. Additionally, less milk and cheese to decrease intake of fat and cholesterol. We are very excited about these changes to promote a healthy diet for women, infants, and children. WIC Locations
