Mobility for Area Citizens (MAC)
MAC's purpose is to provide transportation from your home as time allows to:
- Medical Appointments
- Social Service Agencies
- Legal/Court Appointments
- Covington and Warren Senior Centers (provided each weekday)
- Shopping and Errands (One Day per week is specified for shopping and errands in each town.)
We operate 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., but can operate 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with advance notice. Group outings are occasionally scheduled on weekends. Eligible riders include anyone:
- Age 60 and older
- Handicapped persons 55 and older
- Medicaid recipients that have no transportation to medical appointments.
- For a small donation, the vans also transport handicapped persons who do not qualify under any specific program.
We work closely with the three area nursing homes to transport handicapped residents to local medical clinics and clinics in Lafayette, Crawfordsville, Terre Haute, Indianapolis, Danville, and Champaign.
Dispatching sites and all vehicles are equipped with two-way radios to assure constant communication. The six van drivers hold public passenger licenses and are trained in passenger assistance techniques, CPR, defensive driving, first aid and emergency evacuation.
Fundraising is crucial to our operation. We urge our clients to make a donation for their transportation, no matter how small. Each spring we sponsor a direct mail fund raiser, "Provide a Ride", in which you can donate and sponsor a medical run for an area resident.
