Winter Assistance-Energy Assistance Program (EAP)
This program assists low-income families with the high costs of home energy. Income-eligible families are provided a one-time benefit to their heating and electric companies to offset the high cost of utility bills during the winter months. Income eligibility is 150% of the poverty guidelines. The benefit will average $50 for electric and about $200 for your heating bill (these are average benefits and could vary according to your individual situation). Summer Cooling Program
This statewide program which begins June 1 and ends August 31. It is designed to help families through the summer by providing a one-time benefit towards their electric bill or by providing an air conditioner. The benefit amount varies depending on funding and is paid directly to the family’s electric company. This is designed to help with high electric bills due to running an air conditioning unit. To qualify, families must be income eligible. To receive an air conditioner, families must be income eligible, have an “at risk” household member, elderly, disabled or child under 6 AND have a verified medical requirement for an air conditioner. Families can only receive one air conditioner each 5 years through this program. The number of air conditioners are limited and are distributed on a first-come-first-served basis.
